Fat or Fiction?
By krrobi, Sunday, November 29, 2009, 7 comments~~You’ve got to be kidding me!!!
I’ve been waiting my entire life, almost half a century, if you want the truth, for a society that accepts women for precisely who they are physically...You know, with a few rolls, a bit of cellulite, and cute mommy tummies...finally I found one thanks to Oprah Winfrey.
Oh, yeah, babe, if Oprah says it’s true, it’s damn well true.
Oprah had Mauritanian women on her show talking about body image, which is TOTALLY opposite from ours. Meaning, our culture worships skinny bitches and the Mauritanian culture digs curves. Read this quote from the Media Awareness Network:
~”The barrage of messages about thinness, dieting and beauty tells "ordinary" women that they are always in need of adjustment—and that the female body is an object to be perfected.”
Not in

In
Take me there. NOW! Either that or give me a Whopper with double cheese, fries, and a hot fudge sundae.
~“Obesity is so honored among the Mauritania’s white Moor Arab population that the young girls are sometimes force-fed to obtain a weight the government has described as life threatening.” –BBC News
Oh, now hold it right there, Mister. Did you say Force Fed? I’m not diggin’ this culture much anymore.

“I make them eat lots of dates, lots and lots of couscous and other fattening food," Fatematou (well, the name is apt) a voluminous woman in her sixties who runs a kind of "fat farm" in the northern desert town of Atar, told BBC World Service's. Although she had no clients when I met her, she said she was soon expecting to take charge of some seven-year-olds. "I make them eat and eat and eat. And then drink lots and lots of water…a fat wife is a symbol of wealth, she explained.
Okay, I get it now; another form of control where women are groomed and brainwash into pleasing men; the difference being that these women are fattening up rather than puking up.
Damn, I knew it was too good to be true.
"Of course they cry - they scream," said Fatematou.
"We grab them and we force them to eat. If they cry a lot we leave them sometimes for a day or two and then we come back to start again.
"They get used to it in the end."
She argued that in the end the girls were grateful.
"When they are small they don't understand, but when they grow up they are fat and beautiful," she said.
"They are proud and show off their good size to make men dribble. Don't you think that's good?"
Er, let me think for a second.
NOOOOOOOO! Veto! Rejected! Na! Nei! Non!
Hell, while you’re at it why don’t you begin sewing up their clitorises’ and tighten up their burkes’?
Oprah dropped the ball on this one. The show was meant to be lighthearted and fun, but left my blood running cold. I mean, is being forced to eat and developing heart disease meant to be light entertainment? I think not.
But it gets better…
Since this article was written in 2004, the view of the fat girl is now becoming seen as old-fashioned. Force feeding is dying out. Now only 11% are being force fed.
Woopedy doo dah! Hike up the fricken flag! Grab yourself a medal!
"We're fed up of fat women here," said 19-year-old shop owner Yusuf.
"Always fat women! Now we want thin women.
"In Mauritania if a woman really wants to get married I think she should stay thin. If she gets fat it's not good.
"Some girls have asked me whether they should get fat or stay thin. I tell them if you want to find a man, a European or a Mauritanian, stay thin, it's better for you. But some blokes still like them fat."—BBC NEWS

:::NEWS FLASH::::
We don’t care what you want Yusuf! And the Mauritanian women shouldn’t care either.
When are women going to stop focusing on what the blokes want and begin to focus on what they want? When are WE going realize that beauty dwells within the Soul Self....Not the External Self? I am still waiting for the day when we can look into the mirror and declare "I'm beautiful just the way I am--No need for adjustment!"
Oh, and about making men dribble….If they are not dribbling and drooling and desiring the reach of your arms, the span of your hips, the stride of your step, and the curl of your lips...they are not worth a damn.
May they dribble and drool in their Wranglers..... for all Eternity.

Well done, Kim. I think any extreme is dangerous. Perhaps if we all agree that we are all different and unique with a lot to learn and a ton to give, we could all be a little happier and healthier.
Well, one thing is for sure...
Hello Ladies Great post

Hi Kim, Thanks for your comment on my post. I look forward to reading more of your blogs. This one made me sad, but well done on your part.
Wow
I had no idea about this practice and I'm glad you wrote about it! I agree extremes are not the way to go, especially with anything unhealthy...and definitely not for a guy. I LOVE that last line: "May they dribble and drool in their Wranglers.....for all Eternity." Ha! Fantastic.
I know you love to read, and
I know you love to read, and I MUST recommend "Captivating: Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman's Soul." You can probably find it at the library. It's a look at God's masculine and feminine spirits in humankind, and speaks plainly about the world's abuse towards women since the beginning of time. What made my jaw drop was their mentioning of the female body, and how while God is "enthralled by its beauty," sin has worked hard to corrupt it. Thin and fat make us feel inadequate, and if that wasn't bad enough, add on sex, rape, molestation. The list goes on and on. It really makes you realize how under attack the feminine has been, and points to reasons why. Anyways, great post, and very interesting. Hmm, to starve or be force fed? Which would I choose? How about I just eat when I'm hungry, and everyone leave me alone!? :)
